Bike fans will be delighted by the opportunity to have dinner with some of the top names from the world of TT racing and raise funds for a worthy cause at the same time.

Banter with Bikers is an event set for Douglas Masonic Hall (on Woodbourne Road) on Thursday May 25 and it aims to raise money for the Rob Vine Fund, which finances medical equipment used in motorsport events in the island.

The event is being organised by Noble’s Hospital emergency nurse Julie Hedley whose husband, David Hedley, initially treated Conor Cummins after his accident in 2010.

‘Then Conor was sent to the Royal Liverpool to have his back fixed by spinal lead surgeon Mr Marcus de Matas. Marcus has also fixed Peter Hickman’s back and so we thought it fitting to try and raise funds for the services who saw to these two on the island. Both David and Marcus will give a talk at the event too,’ she said.

John McGuinness, Conor Cummins, Peter Hickman, James Hillier, Dan Kneen, Tim Reeves and David Knight are all attending. The event has been sponsored by Pokerstars, Hooded Ram, Ballakarran Lamb, Coffeemann and Mediatech.

Tickets cost £39, which includes a pint of Hooded Ram ale, dinner, a band and a photographer to record the event for posterity, as well as multiple raffle prizes.

‘It should be a great night and we cannot wait to celebrate the local charity heroes and have a bit of banter,’ Julie said.

Tables for 10 people or individual tickets are available.
