Weather forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and sleet.

After snow fell in many parts of the island last night, there were problems on many roads.

All buses are now running and schools will be open today.

The Met Office’s forecast:

Bright, with sunny intervals and a few isolated wintry showers, and the strong to gale force westerly winds will ease a little during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 5 Celsius.

During this evening a band of heavy rain will arrive, with sleet or snow over the hills and possibly to lower levels for a time, this then clearing overnight.

Cold on Thursday, with sunshine and scattered wintry showers and a fresh to strong westerly wind.

Staying cold on Friday with a few showers, wintry over the hills, then dry and less windy on Saturday.
