The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning today.

The forecast:

A risk of ice on the roads this morning, and through today there will still be some showers of sleet, snow or hail about. However, they will tend to fewer than yesterday, and will become increasingly confined to northern parts of the island, with the south of the island possibly escaping entirely. Another very cold day with temperatures only getting to 4 Celsius at best, but with the fresh to strong northwest winds gradually easing it will feel a little better.

Through this evening and at first tonight winds will be light and skies mainly clear, leading to a widespread frost for a time, with potentially some very icy conditions. Minimum temperature minus 2 Celsius. Then late in the night cloud will increase, possibly bringing a few outbreaks of sleet and snow to southern parts, although any of these will be light.

Cloudy tomorrow morning with a risk of a little patchy light sleet and snow, then dry and brighter through the afternoon. Maximum temperature again only about 4 Celsius, with fresh to strong easterly winds at first.

Then mostly dry and sunny on Monday, but a frost early and late.
