Douglas Rotary Club is holding a ’mini’ Parish Walk for children at 11am on Saturday, July 17 at St John’s Arboretum.

The event is for children only, in four age groups.

The groups are: Group A (4 and 5 year olds, to be accompanied by one adult), Group B (6 and 7 year olds), Group C (8 and 9 year olds), Group D (10 and 11 year olds).

The walking distances will be between approximately 0.8km (0.5 miles) and 2km (1.24 miles) depending on age group.

There will be four separate events which will end around 2.30pm.

Each age group walk will commence in the Tynwald Fair field, proceed into the Arboretum, and finish in the path from the church to Tynwald Hill.

The route is set around the ’Parish’ signs in the Arboretum.

There is a £5 entrance fee for each child, and each entrant will receive a sponsor form to raise money for their own chosen charities.

Medals and certificates will be given to each entrant, and Manx Timing Solutions will provide timekeeping.

Ivan Bratty, Rotary chairman of community service explained: ’This past 12 months has been a terrible time for the island’s children and we hope this event will bring some challenges and fun back into their lives as we will also have food stalls, music and a bouncy castle to give a family festival atmosphere.’
