Plans are being laid for a celebration of international music, to be held later this year in the island, and the organisers are looking for artists to take part in a special project.

The ’Our Island: Our World’ festival is a new two-day celebration of world music and culture, which will take place in Peel in early September.

Although the line up is yet to be released, organiser Dave McLean is appealing for musicians from the different nationalities living on the island to get in touch and take part in a unique and exciting multi-national musical project.

Dave would like to team up musicians from a foreign nation with some Manx performers, in order to create a collaborative piece of music especially for the festival, which is being held as part of the 2018: Year of Our Island celebration.

’We want to celebrate the different communities that make up our Island by organising a special concert featuring three of the best Manx folk musicians and two or three musicians from further afield,’ said Dave.

’They could be from Eastern Europe, such as Poland, Russia, Romania, the Baltic States, Africa, South America or wherever.

’We will hold a few workshops over the next few months to come up with new music fusing the music from the Isle of Man with that from the other country leading to a performance at the Festival in September.’

Dave said that there was already funding in place to support the project, but he was struggling to find musicians to take part.

’So far, we haven’t been able to track down any musicians to take part,’ he said.

’So we are appealing to people living on the Island from other parts of the world to get in touch if they know any musicians we can approach.’
