Yet another record was set this week as 383 people took part in beach cleans across the island.
Those taking part included Chief Minister Howard Quayle and 14 other members of Tynwald, prisoners from Jurby and fire crews.
The monumental effort saw 11 of the island’s beaches tackled and even saw a team on the Calf of Man.
Mr Quayle, who took part in a beach clean at Port Soderick, said: ’I’ve really enjoyed getting involved and it’s been great to see so many people helping to look after our special island in this way.
’It is important for us to not only get out and explore more and to get value from our surroundings, but also to care for them.’
The 383 total has surpassed the previous record of 229 held by Barclays staff that was only set in April.
As ever, the event was organised by FIM Capital Beach Buddies, which has grown to enormous levels since being founded by Bill Dale BEM 11 years ago.
Mr Dale said: ’The statistics speak for themselves, but the real story is how everyone who took part is helping our very special environment and unique wildlife.
’Having clean beaches is the visual result, but the priority has always been to keep the shoreline environment free from rubbish, which harms sea animals and sea birds.’
As well as politicians, the fire service took part in a clean in Douglas and prisoners and officers from Jurby cleaned a beach in the parish.
The event was part of the 2018 Year of our Island scheme.
