A new café is preparing to open in Laxey’s former post office, with plans to become a welcoming meeting place for the local community.
Swallow Coffee Shop and Bakery is taking over the New Road premises in the village centre, with a possible opening next month.
The owners also hope to host clubs and events.
The team behind the venture recently announced the plans on social media.
The post said: ‘I’m sure many of you have heard by now, but for those of you that haven’t… the Old Post Office is becoming our own little coffee shop!
‘In the midst of doing all the other bits and bobs too, posting on Facebook seems to have been swept under the rug, but we’re here now and wanted to say hello!’
Imogene Kewley, one of those behind the business, told Media IoM about plans for the new café, including its emphasis on local produce and community activities.
She said: ‘The main theme we have at the moment is keeping things local, fresh, and sustainable. Our coffee will be Noa roasted beans, which we’re really excited about!
‘We also want to make a place that feels welcoming - so clubs, events and activities are things we’d love to host in the future. Additionally we plan to be dog friendly, so pup cups will be on our menu for the four-pawed friends.
‘Our space will likely have between 16 - 22 indoor seats for customers and hopefully some additional outdoor space for when the weather gets warmer again. Takeaway service is also super important to us - so there’s a window seat to sit in while you wait.’
An official opening date has yet to be confirmed, but Imogene hopes to hold a soft opening on Friday evening, November 13, alongside a late-night shopping event in Laxey.
The café’s regular opening hours have not yet been announced.
