One of the island’s well-known singer songwriters has put all his thoughts about the current situation into a new song.

Ian Thompson has written and released a new single, entitled simply ’Lockdown’, and it gave Ian the chance to vent his frustrations on the change that the pandemic has had on modern society in such a short time.

’I wrote it very quickly about four weeks ago,’ said Ian.

’It was just me getting stuff off my chest in the best way I know how, with a guitar.’

The Liverpudlian singer has released two albums through the US-based Spectra Music label, ’New World’ in 2017 and ’Mean Time’ in 2018.

’I haven’t written anything for about a year now, and these days I’m only motivated to write if something major happens in the world,’ he said.

’I was actually trying to figure out the chords to another song when I accidentally played the wrong chord change, but I liked it and just felt it suited the weird mood that was in the air.’

Ian recorded the whole song on just his phone, with his wife offering technical support, and he sent it to local producer Gypo Buggane, from the Ballagroove Studios, who added extra basslines and turned it into a finished product.

Ian said that after releasing the song last weekend, it has already had some radio airplay and has received good feedback so far.
