Douglas City Council has selected its mayor for the forthcoming 2025-26 municipal year.

During a special meeting of the council, Councillor Steven Crellin was selected as mayor for the forthcoming year and signified his intention to accept the office, if confirmed, at the annual council meeting on Wednesday, May 14.

A councillor for Douglas South, he was first elected to the local authority in 2021 before being re-elected last month.

Mr Crellin replaces Natalie Byron-Teare who has held the role for the last two years.

One of Mrs Byron-Teare’s last functions in the office was to preside at the city’s VE Day commemorations on Thursday.
