A new pedestrian crossing could be created on the TT course as part of a major housing development.
Preparatory work on the 320-home development began at the end of last year after Hartford Homes secured planning permission in May 2022.
The new estate will be known as ‘Braddan Woods’ and will be made up of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.
But one of the planning conditions attached to the scheme requires a new pedestrian crossing over Peel Road.
Hartford Homes has now submitted an application for a toucan crossing - controlled by traffic lights and allowing both pedestrians and cyclists to cross - on Peel Road, just after Quarter Bridge on the Braddan side.
Design drawings show the crossing will link the TT access road with Port-e-Chee playing fields, where a shared footpath and cycle path will also be created leading to the new housing estate.
The application for the housing development was approved four years ago and also included outline plans for a potential new two-form entry primary school, backed by the planning committee.
Braddan Commissioners and residents of three properties at Braddan Bridge appealed against the proposals, resulting in a planning inquiry which recommended that the committee’s original decision should stand.
The 31-hectare site comprises pasture land bordered by Kirk Braddan Cemetery, the Tromode Woods estate and Port-e-Chee Meadows.
Hartford’s plans include up to 320 homes, with a quarter earmarked as two and three-bedroom affordable housing, together with a neighbourhood centre containing three commercial units and a children’s nursery.
Approval in principle for a new primary school could be progressed by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture at a later date.
The application for the new pedestrian crossing will now be considered by planners in due course.
