Sergeant Quentin De Backer has taken over as Operational Sergeant for the Western Neighbourhood Policing Team based in Peel.

He takes over from Sergeant Andy Reed, who has become operations and events manager. Sergeant De Backer is in his 23rd year of policing in the island and his fourth since being promoted to the rank of sergeant.

He has served largely in the south and Douglas as a Constable and then spent eight years in the then traffic department, moving from there to work in custody and Douglas again, before promotion.

As a sergeant, he led a team in the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team before carrying out the function of custody sergeant and latterly as force incident manager in the Joint Control Room.

He said: ’I jumped at the opportunity to come and work in the west as it is a role I have considered previously and I look forward to continuing the good work that is going on here.’
