An 18-year-old’s video has turned out to be the first ever documentation of a newborn dolphin in Manx waters.

Phoebe Robertson was filming a pod of bottlenose dolphins around Gansey bay in September this year with the young dolphin going unnoticed until the Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch discovered it when going through their sightings database.

The video showed ’erratic behaviour’ from the pod members who were strangely close to the shore.

The charity said this suggests the calf could have been born a matter of minutes before recording.
