Police are warning motorists to stick to the temporary 30mph speed limit on Richmond Hill.
The limit was introduced last month after problems with a newly-laid surface dressing coming loose.
A police spokesman said: ’Richmond Hill currently has a 30mph speed restriction on it, this is likely to be in place for a number of months. It is apparent that many motorists are ignoring this limit.
’We are patrolling the area in both marked and unmarked vehicles. If you decide to exceed the speed limit in this area and get stopped by us you can expect to receive penalty points and a fine.’
The Department of Infrastructure said it is working with its contractors to find the cause of the problem and urged drivers to observe the speed limit.A spokesman said: 'Colas were the contractor that undertook the original surface repair.'They are currently investigating the cause and extent of the remedial works required. When their report is complete we will make an announcement on the timescale of repair.'
