One of the biggest groups from the Brit rock scene of the late 1990s will be on the island next week.

Ocean Colour Scene will be performing at the Villa Marina on Monday, December 3, from 8pm.

The group were regular chart toppers, with a run of nine successive Top 20 hit singles and the songs ’The Day We Caught the Train’ and ’The Riverboat Song’ were ever-present anthems at the time.

Breaking out of Birmingham in the mid-1990s, Ocean Colour Scene have notched up nine albums throughout their career, three of which reached the Top Five, including their break-through album ’Mosely Shores’, released in 1996 and the follow-up ’Marching Already’, in 1997.

They supported Oasis at their huge, sold out Knebworth shows that same year, peforming to cr0wds in excess of 125,000 people per night.

Their most recent album, ’Painting’, was released in 2013, and this year, the band released a new four-track EP, containing their first new material in five years.

They are also releasing a special edition 10" vinyl version of the EP, which will only be available for sale at their December shows

Support for the night comes from local singer and songwriter, and self-confessed huge Ocean Colour Scene fan, Chris Gray.

Tickets are £32.50, available online the Villa Marina box office, or from villagaiety.com
