The 125th anniversary of the Snaefell Mountain Railway was marked on Friday with a special event.

The milestone should have been celebrated last year, but it was put back a year with the Mountain Railway not running last year.

The weekend’s party and cake-cutting took place at the Snaefell Summit Café.

Director of Transport Services Ian Longworth cut the cake and said: ’We were unable to celebrate last year due to the pandemic, but didn’t want this anniversary to pass without some acknowledgment.

’We have been overwhelmed by the support our railways have received from residents, enthusiasts and tourists and want to thank everyone for making a difference.

’Simply buying a ticket and enjoying the fantastic experiences you can have on all our heritage railways mean that people will continue celebrating rolling stock anniversaries for years to come.’

Isle of Man Transport is starting to put together plans to mark the 150th anniversary of the Isle of Man Steam Railway, with events taking place during July 2023.
