Steam Packet passengers have told the company they want more choices on board its planned new vessel.
The company commissioned Island Global Research to conduct a survey into what the ferry operator’s customers want to see on its new flagship vessel.
Among the wants of passengers are more tables, an on board cinema and a space for children and families. Respondents also wanted a separate bar area, an increased number of cabins and a dedicated cafe away from other seating areas.
Other requests were for a larger lift from the car deck to passenger lounges, better disability access and the introduction of a quiet lounge.
Chief executive Mark Woodward said: ’We were very pleased with the positive response to the survey and that so many people took the time to share their personal experiences and preferences.
’Customer feedback is something we value greatly and I’d like to thank everyone who participated. This has helped us gain a deeper understanding of our passengers’ general travel preferences.
’Factoring in various technical and logistical considerations for a new ship, we are now assessing the different opinions the survey has provided and, where possible, will endeavour to ensure the needs of our passengers are met when the new vessel is designed.’
The company’s research, for the new vessel to run the Douglas to Heysham routes, also asked questions about how people travel to and from the island using the ferry service and where to, i.e. Liverpool or Heysham and why they choose to sail with the company or not.
The survey asked what most influences passengers’ reasons for choosing to sail or fly including the price, speed, timetable, convenience of the ports and no luggage fees.
A large majority (80%) said taking a vehicle was their main reason to choose the ferry and 77% said speed was deemed as the main reason to fly. Some 60% said they are satisfied with the Heysham timetable and 58% for the Liverpool route.
The survey was completed by 7,122 people who have either used the Heysham route in the past three years or those who said they intend to do so, 61% of the respondents were from the Isle of Man.
