A well-loved mother who devoted a lot of her time to charity work has died aged 95.

Jenny Glanz, a Dublin-born woman who called the Isle of Man her home, will be sadly missed by her family after her peaceful death on August 5.

She and her husband Max had settled in the island shortly after the war where they set up a successful business selling jewellery, watches and souvenirs at a number of Strand Street shops in Douglas.

Their son Melvin Glanz said: ’Max and Jenny met at a ex servicemans dance in Liverpool in 1947. It was love at first sight.

’Dad went over to Dublin to meet mum’s family and propose. They were married in Liverpool early the following year. Dad was already involved in business on the island and asked mum to join him and together they built a life together and became active members of the community.’

Together they had three children: Melvin, Betty and Maz. Husband Max sadly passed away in 1993 and in 2001 tragedy struck when Betty died from breast cancer at the age of 49 years.

’I don’t think she was ever the same after that,’ Mr Glanz said.

From thereon she became ’very active’ in Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association, arranging functions and raising lots of funds, said Mr Glanz.

She was also a ’Life President’ for King George’s Fund for Sailors and had been invited to Buckingham Palace in recognition of her charity work.

Jenny was ’the matriarch of the Glanz family’, Mr Glanz said, adding: ’She was a very strong woman right until the end.’

The family thanked her carers and NHS team for their ’incredible’ attention to Jenny.

She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and son-in-laws Andrew and Michael.
