A recent photo in the Isle of Man Examiner’s nostalgia pages has prompted a letter from a reader.
The photo shows staff at the Regal Cinema, which was on Victoria Street in Douglas.
Phil Campbell, who now lives in Clitheroe in Lancashire, worked in the projection room when he was 16.
Richie Murphy was on the projectors.
We asked if anyone had more information about the photo.
Phil worked at the Regal when I was 16, up in the projection room with a man called Richie Murphy on the projectors.
He says that the man in the middle was Bob Wilkinson, the manager at the time.
The woman second from the right is Edith McMullen, the one on Bob’s right is Audrey Corkill, who married Dougie Kermode, he says.
The man on the right, who you could hardly see, is Phil’s father, Henry Campbell.
Phil writes: ’One of my memories when working at the Regal was when Anna Neagle and her husband Herbert Wilcox came to the world premiere of her film Maytime in Mayfair.
’I was the one with the spotlight on them when they ventured onto the stage. I was mad afterwards that I didn’t venture to get their autographs.
’It is surprising what memories a photograph can bring back to you after all those years. I can only thank you for bringing back those memories (especially of my father) to me.’
