The Purple Helmets performed with the Royal Signals White Helmets for the last time on Sunday night.
It was billed as the final showdown of the two greatest motorcycle display teams and it didn’t disappoint.
The audience at Onchan Raceway laughed and thrilled at the stunts, both daring and wacky, of the White Helmets and the island’s own Purple Helmets.
The Purple Helmets, a much-loved feature of TT entertainment for many years, were once described as ’a motorcycle display team that looks like Dad’s Army has just collided with Mad Max’.
The White Helmets have been entertaining audiences with their displays for the past 90 years but the team is now being disbanded so this was the last time they would be appearing at the TT. This final performance was being held in aid of Hospice.
The Nivison Stadium was packed with people enjoying a display which included jumping through fire and human pyramids on motorcycles. There was even a rider powered apparently by baked beans and an appearance by ’Donald Tump’.
After the show the Purple Helmets posted a message on their Facebook page which read: ’A massive, massive thank you to all who came out to support the Hospice last night. We really do appreciate it and hope the show was down to our usual standards.’
