It was a night of extravagant creations at the Wearable Art Show at Kensington Road Youth and Arts Centre last Friday.
’We never know what’s going to turn up on the night but they never let us down!’ said organiser Sue Robinson.
Sue, along with Doreen Dixon and Myra Gilbert, initiated the bi-annual event in 2005. It’s open to anyone who wants to get their creative juices flowing and create something wearable that reflects theatre, art or fashion.
Sue said: ’Most will enter as individuals, finding the materials, completing their creation and dressing their model.
’The show also incorporated some youngsters from the Youth Arts Centre who had been doing a project with Alice Fayle.’
In all over 30 creations were sent down the catwalk on the night. Highlights included the L. S. Lowry tribute, made by Geoff Dixon, which was modelled by Ben Scott, and Thalloo Keylley (Woodland) which had been created by Ali Croft and Heidi Baker of The Flower Studio at Tynwald Mills. Another eye-catching outfit was ’Quiver of Excitement’, made entirely out of plastic cups, straws and a shower curtain by Myra Gilbert.
Several of the artists modelled their own creations including Nicola Dixon who made the ’Knoxy Knot Frock’ and 11 year old Freya Miller with her outfit inspired by Old Laxey.
