The former Murray’s Motor Museum at the Bungalow on the Mountain Road could be set for a new lease of life as a cafe, if an application by Victory Cafe Ltd is approved.

The building has been empty since Murray’s Motor Museum moved to Santon in 2006.

The company’s application (19/00170/C) is seeking to change the museum into a cafe and retail shop which would see the relocation of Betty Pies Co from its current home in Peel.

In its application, the pie producer stated it will need to carry out some repair work on the former museum before it can be converted into a cafe.

If approval is granted, the company plans to be open from March to December from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday. It ’may do the occasional evening event’.

It said that it would be likely to be closed in January and February ’because of the weather’.

Betty Pie Co would seek to employ three full-time members of staff and seek to grown to ’at least seven’ by 2020.

In supporting documents which accompany the application, Betty Pie Co said that as Murray’s had once operated a cafe, the building would not require significant changes to accommodate the proposed usage.

It also stated that due to its location off the road, it can accommodate 20 vehicles or 70 motorbikes and would be able to take bikes during race periods.

The company noted that due its location near to the Bungalow tram stop, non-motorists would be able to to access the site.

In the bid, it says that while the Mountain Road is a main highway, access to the building should not be a problem and during the busiest time of year, TT and MGP, traffic calming measures are put in place at the Bungalow section of the road which would allow ’vehicles to slowly and safely filter on and off the hard shoulder’.
