Port Erin Commissioners has submitted plans for a 30- glamping pod/cabin site with provision for camping and camper vans in a field on Ballafesson Road.

The local authority’s application (20/00496/B) includes plans for a welcome centre and detached toilet and shower facilities, the creation of a vehicular access, car parking and landscaping.

The application also includes a new designation for the field, on the edge of Rowany golf course, from open space to tourism.

As part of the application, the commissioners submitted the business plan for the site, which is called Reayrt Vradda Glamping - ’The most luxurious glamping on the Isle of Man’.

Reayrt Vradda Glamping is run by director Stuart Owens who also operates the Glen Helen Glamping site on the TT course.

The plans for the site would be for eight ’luxury pods’ once the site has been secured, to be followed by 10 in the first year and a further 10 in the second year of operation. If approved, the 28 pods would have space for 168 beds with en-suite shower and toilet facilities, electricity supply and under-floor heating in each pod with 4G connections to ’ensure access and security’. The pods also include a mini kitchen, barbecue area, a children’s play area and disabled access with timber boardwalk.

Mr Owens says his site would have the ’potential for bringing 12,600 visitors, assuming that each pod is rented by a five-person family for a one-week stay’.

The pods themselves would be six metres in length and four metres wide with western red cedar cladding and insulation in both the walls and floor.

The sleeping arrangements consist of a king-sized bed, a double sofa bed and a folding single bed.
