A former travel agent shop could be turned into a restaurant if plans are approved.

Ameya Limited has applied (19/00719/B) to make alterations to the former shop on Marathon Terrace, Queens Promenade in Douglas and open it as a dine-in restaurant.

No details are provided as to what sort of restaurant it may be, but information has been given as to the changes the application is seeking to make to the store as part of the change.

This will include the current front door entrance being removed and replaced by a window with the new entrance on the left side of the front of the building.

To achieve this, the steps will be altered with a level floor entrance opening directly into the restaurant’s dining area.

At the rear of the property, the existing yard will be covered over with a flat roof, with the drain pipes altered to allow for the modifications.

Inside, plans show a small set of stairs are to be removed and ’floored over’. The kitchen, bar area and toilets are shown to be at the rear of the inside, with several partitioning walls being removed.

The shop had been the base of Crossley Travel for a number of years.

Business owners in the area said they were struggling to provide parking for customers during the on going promenade regeneration works and the travel agent has since relocated.
