Plans to build KFC and Starbucks drive throughs in Douglas are being recommended for approval.

The application (18/00977/B) by Buchanan Services Ltd has attracted a wide range of objections since the plans were first submitted more than a year ago.

However, the planning officer who has examined the pros and cons of the application has recommended approval of the plans for the former Eurocars site on Peel Road. A decision will be made when the planning committee meets on Monday next week.

The most contentious issue has been the impact on traffic.

However principal planner Chris Balmer said that the ’the department is satisfied that the proposals could be undertaken without significant impacts upon the highway network or upon highway safety’.

The planning committee will also be considering two other key applications on Monday that would see major changes made to two high profile sites if approved.

Firstly, it will explore Degaltie Ltd’s bid (19/00373/A) to redevelop the former Marine Biological Station site at Port Erin. The company is seeking approval in principle for the erection of a building to provide exhibition space, retail, apartments and restaurant with 159 parking spaces.

Secondly, it will consider an application (19/00959/B and 19/00960/CON) by Homefield Care Ltd for the demolition of existing buildings at the former Department of Home Affairs headquarters in Woodbourne Road, Douglas.

And it wants to build a 73-bedroom care home with associated parking, retaining walls and landscaping in its place.
