An island charity has revealed plans to build a children’s assault course in the north of the island.
The Manx Wildlife Trust has applied for planning permission (21/00628/B) to build the wooden course in the 13-hectare Claughbane Plantation, on a site adjoining Elfin Glen on the outskirts of Ramsey.
Accessible from the hairpin, it will include a bridge, monkey bars, a hurdle and climbing frame equipment constructed out of timber sourced from the surrounding area.
Manx Wildlife Trust describes it as an addition, suited for older children, to the nearby tot’s woodland play area which was built by MWT volunteers in 2018.
It says the plans are part of a wider scheme to engage more children with the Ramsey forest, with woodland areas being able to ’help children in ways that go way beyond what we tend to think of as "education", and help form them into well rounded and grounded individuals’.
