Plans have been unveiled for the redevelopment of the former Lord Street bus station site.
The plans, titled ’Quayside North’ include, an 80 bedroom Travelodge, a seven screen Omniplex cinema, bar/restaurant/cafe units, 20 residential apartments and about 300 car parking spaces.
American based real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) is advertising units to let in the ambitious development.
The plans revealed that planning permission is due to be applied for in the second quarter of 2018.
Work is then planned to begin on the site in early 2019, though no completion date has yet been revealed.
The plans emerged just two weeks after leader of Douglas Council David Christian said: ’I have been advised a positive announcement is imminent on the redevelopment of the Lord Street bus station site.’
There is also a suggestion that ’as part of the development this will see a major investment into redeveloping the bus station’.
Since the old bus station was demolished in 2002, the site has largely been used as car park.
Previous failed plans have included Askett Hawk’s plans to build a four star hotel with 150 rooms, 75 apartments, and nine retail and leisure units which fell through despite the company being offered a 999 year lease.
