An application has been made [21/00152/B] by the Manx Wildlife Trust [MWT] for the creation of a wildlife pond with a wooden platform at the Ballachurry Nature Reserve, which is situated just outside Port Erin.
The pond is planned to be five metres long by four metres wide, and up to one metre deep.
It will be naturally filled by rainwater, and have a 1mm rubber lining.
Two other ponds already exist in the reserve, which is managed by the MWT.
It is used by the public, as well as groups like the Rushen Primary special needs department and the Southlands care home.
The MWT aims for the pond to enhance the reserve for wildlife, particularly for insects such as dragonflies and damselflies.
The wooden platform is for educational purposes.
