Two applications have been submitted that will make alterations to an already approved regeneration of Port St Mary Railway station.
Haven Homes was granted planning permission to convert the station and detached goods shed building to provide a toy museum, tea room and office accommodation with associated parking earlier this year.
The company has now applied to make alterations to those plans in order to comply with fire precautions and building regulations.
In its new applications (20/01230/GB) and (20/01231/CON) the company is seeking permission to add a secondary means of fire escape and relocation of the proposed escape door onto the terrace.
The new applications don’t change any other aspects of the already approved application.
The railway station was deemed surplus to requirements and much of it has been unused for some time and is said to be in a poor condition.
Originally constructed as a wooden structure in 1874, the existing building was built in 1898 using predominantly red brick.
Haven’s changes will see the front of the station (the platform side) retain its function as a waiting area with toilets and would also see the introduction of a cafe to the Douglas end of the platform.
Mr George previously told the Examiner that it has ’always been my ambition to have a toy museum’ and confirmed that part of the museum would house a model railway.
He also confirmed that he plans to move his office to the station and said it was the ’ideal place’ for him.
The previously approved application 19/01117/GB was approved in February this year.
