Planners have granted permission to Athol Street Auctioneers to build 20 flats in Ramsey.

The flats are set to be built on the former Mart Site on Bowring Road and designed by Cornerstone Architects.

Thy will be split over three accommodation blocks and the complex will come with 20 off-street parking spaces and two disabled or visitor spaces.

Both blocks A and B will be spread over two storeys while block C will include a third.

The plans include a mixture of two- and threebedroom flats and includes five ’affordable’ housing flats.

The plan will bring development to a large brownfield site in the town.

The application says: ’This is a brownfield site which was most recently used for commercial purposes and as a livestock market.

’Both uses had been redundant for a number of years with the buildings derelict for a number of years prior to their demolition in August 2017.’

The developers have had to pay a commuted sum in lieu of public open space.

However, the plans include details of open space being included .

Where the three blocks overlook the car park, the application states that the wall has been shortened slightly to allow in more natural light and trees and ’greenery’ will be introduced.

Also included in the plans, behind block C, is the plan for wall plants, a timber pergola structure and the planting of many flowers.

Developers how this will create a ’more sensory enhanced experience’.

In March, Ramsey Commissioners confirmed that the board would raise no objection with the amended planning application.
