Port Erin Commissioners will reveal plans for the future of Cosy Nook cafe next week.
The local authority has been working on a ’long-term’ redevelopment of the site since the previous tenant left in May last year.
At that time, an architect was invited to draw up designs for the old stone building with the commissioners wanting any future cafe to open ’all year round’.
It’s understood that sustainable energy, equality legislation and flood risk have all been considered as part of the plans. They’ll be available to view at the commissioners’ offices following a board meeting next Tuesday (March 10).
The future of the popular beach front cafe has been uncertain for many months.
Former leaseholder Phil Maltby’s contract came to an end in May 2019 and has stood empty since then.
His lease, which he had held since 2004, was not renewed.
It provoked strong opinions from the public, who said losing the cafe would be ’a loss of character’ for Port Erin. Port Erin Commissioners said it wanted ’to take back the property to undertake significant works’. Investigations were made into demolishing, rebuilding or renovating the cafe to make it suitable for year-round use.
