Onchan District Commissioners have presented a plaque to staff at Barclays Bank for their work in restoring the village’s sensory garden.
The garden was developed to provide a vibrant outdoor space that can be enjoyed by all members of the local community and visitors by engaging the senses.
This year’s work was focused on clearing weeds, carrying out fence repairs, adding more planting, cleaning out the fountain and concreting two more areas in preparation for resin bonded gravel to be laid.
In previous years improvements have included the "coin path project", which involved laying over 5,000 2ps into the ground depicting the Three Legs of Man.
This has now become a central feature of the gardens.
The volunteers have also levelled the pathways around the garden to create a truly accessible experience for both children and wheelchair users.
This is the fourth year that the bank’s staff have given up their time to work in the garden, with this year’s work being carried out in May and July.
A commissioners’ spokesman said: ’Although the weather was not as good as previous years the volunteers worked on through the rain with dedication to improving the space, and it has not put them off wanting to return for a fifth year.
’The garden has undergone a fantastic transformation and it would not have been possible without the help and support from Barclays.
’Onchan Commissioners hopes that the sensory garden will be used by local residents as a place to meet and enjoy the peaceful and colourful environment.’
