A trail of unique and original poetry has been unveiled around the centre of Douglas.
Starting yesterday (Wednesday, September 18), 10 poems have been placed in participating shop windows around the capital, creating a poetic trail which takes the reader on a journey along Strand Street and finishing on Victoria Road.
The poems can be traced with a trail guide, which can be picked up free from the Henry Bloom Noble Library, in Douglas, and the trail will remain up until October 16.
The poetry trail has been organised by the Isle of Man Poetry Society, and the chairman, Bethany De Legh-Runciman, said that the poems cover a variety of topics.
’The poems are of a wide variety of themes, said Bethany. ’As you would expect, there are some about the Isle of Man.
’The first poem of the trail is called "The Beautiful Island of Man", which is in the window of the Douglas Development Partnership, next to the Rover’s Return pub.
’We also have a few poems about loss and grief.’
Of the 55 poems that were entered, by 36 different writers, a panel of judges selected the successful poems, which the chairman of the poetry society, Bethany De Legh-Runciman, said was a difficult process.
’We had entries this year from a couple of eight year old children who didn’t win, but their poems were of such a high standard that I’m sure they will find themselves on the trail in the near future.’
