Police are appealing for residents to avoid speculation following the death of 10-year-old Jack Whorrall.

An inquest was opened into the boy’s death this week. It heard that Jack was found unconscious in a paddling pool in a home in Foxdale and despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at Noble’s Hospital on February 22.

Detective Inspector Neil Craig, who is leading the inquiry, said, ’Jack’s death, which is not being treated as suspicious, currently remains unexplained with a report being awaited from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

’This investigation is being conducted by us on behalf of the coroner of inquests.

’I’m aware that there may be local speculation as to the exact circumstances of how and why Jack died, but I would like to request that consideration be given to the impact that such speculation may be directly having on Jack’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

’I would also like to extend my deepest sympathies to Jack’s family at this extremely distressing time.

’Our enquiries are continuing, and a report will be submitted to the coroner in due course.’
