Three police were left injured after attending two separate incidents at the weekend.

The first, at 1.30am on Saturday in Union Mills, saw one of the victims head-butted and the other suffer a knee injury after they were called out to the village.

Inspector Mark Newey said police had answered a call from a member of the public. Three people were arrested and taken to the police station to help with enquiries before being bailed. Enquiries into the matter are still continuing but no-one has so far been charged with an offence.

The second incident happened at around 9pm, also on Saturday, at Governor’s Hill in Douglas when police were called to a domestic altercation. A police officer at the incident was alleged to have been punched several times.

Martin John Butler, aged 54, from Hillcroft in Douglas, appeared in court on Monday morning charged with one affray and two assaults on the police. No pleas have been entered and he was bailed to April 25.
