Police are appealing for information regarding a group of people swimming illegally in Laxey Bay.

Officers were alerted at 6.22am today (Wednesday).

They saw a large group of people quickly dispersing from the area who had been swimming in the bay.

Current Covid-19 regulations allow for some outdoor exercise, but only individual households, and for two households in a support bubble together.

A police spokesman said: ’The size of the group present suggests that this was an organised gathering and would tend to dismiss the fact that the regulations were being adhered to on this occasion, and inquiries are ongoing to identify those involved.’

Officers based in Ramsey police station want to hear from participants and people who know who was there.

They believe a similar gathering is being planned again.
