Moving the airport cleaning contract ’in house’ to the Department of Infrastructure has saved the taxpayer £8,500.

The figure was revealed in a written Keys answer from DoI Minister Ray Harmer after a question from Clare Barber (Douglas East). Until last year, the airport cleaning was done by a private contractor.

In response to a separate question from Mrs Barber, Mr Harmer said the DoI has no individual policy on outsourcing and bringing projects in house. He said: ’The department works at all times to secure best value for the ta payer. Where work is outsourced, the department follows the requirement of the financial regulations.’
