Onchan District Commissioners have elected Anthony Allen as their chairman for the 2017-18 year.

Mr Allen was appointed at the commissioners’ annual general meeting held on May 2 at Hawthorn Villa on the Main Road in Onchan.

He said after his appointment: ’I am honoured to accept the position and will endeavour at all times to do my best for the people of Onchan, without fear or favour, and aim to achieve the best possible value for the rate payer.’

Martin MacFarlane was elected to the position of vice-chairman.

Other appointments made at the annual general meeting on May 2 were; Properties and Amenities - lead member, James Cherry.

Environmental and Technical Services - Derek Crellin.

Finance and General Purposes - Martin MacFarlane.

A commissioners’ surgery will be held this evening (Tuesday) at the Youth and Community Centre Meeting Room from 6.30pm until 7.30pm.

These monthly surgeries provide an opportunity for people to meet a commissioner and discuss any issues.
