Another candidate has declared their intention to stand for the House of Keys in September’s General Election.

Gareth Young, from Laxey, is a teacher and head of year at St Ninian’s High School and is planning to stand in Garff, the constituency that encompasses Maughold, Lonan, Laxey and part of Onchan.

As part of his ’Gareth for Garff’ campaign, he outlined his key pledges to potential voters.

They include: ’Working for a greener and more sustainable future.

’Developing partnerships in the local community to ensure social and economic fairness.’

’Ensuring that public services remain public services and ending the outsourcing of our essential services.

’Striving to ensure equality across all groups and pull down obstacles that limit opportunity and talent.’

If elected, Mr Young told us that his inital priorities would be: ’to work on the maintenance of the island’s infrastructure, public services funding, and work on moving the island to a carbon neutral status as quickly as possible.’

Asked what made him decide to run, he said: ’I want to try and make a difference, leaving the island a better place for my children to grow up.’

He said that his general priorities for the pandemic include to ’ramp up testing and the vaccine rollout as much as possible given the current spread’ and to call for ’support from additional health care avenues if need be for staffing’.
