Douglas East MHK Clare Barber has announced she is planning to stand in September’s House of Keys general election.

In her election announcement Mrs Barber, a registered nurse, highlights her role in legislation in the Sex Offences and Obscene Publication Bill, Domestic Abuse Act and Abortion Reform Act.

’If re-elected my priority issues will be economic recovery, climate change, affordable housing and access to health services,’ she says.

’I would also seek to address the gap in legislation relating to hate crime, review planning policy and introduce comprehensive animal welfare reforms.’

The other candidates in the constituency, which encompasses the promenade, are Douglas mayor and former MHK Jon Joughin, Michael Josem, Joney Faragher (Manx Labour) and Christine Urquhart.

The other sitting candidate, Chris Robertshaw, said some time ago that he would not stand again.
