A review of the island’s border controls is under way as the UK confronts a new mutant strain of Covid.

With Christmas cancelled for many across and many European countries banning flights from the UK, the Council of Ministers is meeting this afternoon to discuss the government’s response.

An announcement on any changes to travel restrictions is expected to be made tomorrow (Tuesday).

It is understood that under consideration are changes to rules on key workers and also testing requirements for arrivals.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle confirmed that an emergency meeting of CoMin and senior advisors was taking place at 4pm today.

He said Ministers will be debating the recommendations of the senior advisors.

A government spokesman confirmed border restrictions were being reviewed but no decisions have yet been made.
