Chief Minister Howard Quayle has congratulated Prime Minister Boris Johnson on his general election victory.
The Conservative Party won an absolutely majority in yesterday’s election, wining 364 seats as the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn collapsed.
Speaking to Isle of Man Newspapers this morning, Mr Quayle said the island always remain neutral when it comes to the UK’s politics but that it would be ’remiss’ of him not to congratulate Mr Johnson.
Mr Quayle said: ’I look forward to continue to work with him going forward.
’This result certainly gives us certainty when he has that majority and the fact that all the people standing in the election as Conservatives had signed up to getting Brexit done.
’That was his slogan "Get Brexit Done" and it’s "oven ready" and he will be pulling the UK out of the European Union on January 31 and we’ll then have the transition period to the end of December 2020 to negotiate.
’But really an awful lot of that will have to be decided by about June of next year.’
The Chief Minister added that his government has been ’preparing for all scenarios’ and the island is ready to ’hit the ground running’ with the Prime Minister.
