A Tynwald plan to redevelop urban and brownfield sites in the island has been backed by the leader of Douglas Council.

The Manx Development Corporation is being established to regenerate disused areas for commercial and residential use.

David Christian has strongly criticised brownfield sites in the past, insisting they were a blight on the capital.

He has praised this latest move and is waiting to see what involvement local authorities will have.

Mr Christian (pictured) said: ’The one aspect we’re not too sure about at the moment is just what role the council will play in relation to this body.

’And we are seeking that clarification because clearly the majority of brownfield sites that are dragging our island down are in the borough of Douglas. So I’d hope the council can come forward and be playing an active part in that’.
