Treasury is to review financial information that was sent to government by collapsed airline EuroManx over a decade ago.
Liberal Vannin leader and Douglas South MHK Kate Beecroft has called for a full investigation into the EuroManx affair.
The airline, which operated services from Ronaldsway to Liverpool, Manchester, London City and Belfast, collapsed in 2008, blaming rising fuel costs and falling passenger numbers.
It owed the Manx government £1,656,244 in unpaid airport fees, taxes and other debts. Treasury subsequently recovered £285,111 through the liquidation, leaving the final cost to the taxpayer as £1,371,133.
In a Tynwald question for written answer, Mrs Beecroft asked Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan to publish the EuroManx liquidator’s books of record and copies of all financial information that departments obtained from the airline.
Mr Cannan replied that Treasury’s involvement in the liquidation was as a creditor.
and it had no power to release the liquidator’s books of record.
He said an order dated July 2013, dissolving the company and releasing the liquidator, provided for him to retain all documents for a period of six years.
Mr Cannan said: ’EuroManx Ltd ceased trading more than 11 years ago.
’The Treasury has begun a process to identify financial information received from the company and has requested a similar process be undertaken by other relevant departments.
’Given the passage of time this process will take some time. Treasury will review any papers still available and consider the propriety of publication of any financial information received, taking account of access to information guidelines.’
