The Isle of Man Green Party claimed its first win last night as party chairman Andrew Bentley was elected to represent Douglas’ Derby Ward.
Mr Bentley won with 42% of the vote with 191 votes, 52 ahead of the other nearest candidate Amanda Walker.
Party leader, Andrew Newton said of the win: ’The Green Party are delighted that the people of Derby Ward voted so heavily in favour of our party chairman.
’The effort and commitment Andrew Bentley has shown to the party over the last two years are commendable and we’re pleased he has been so well received in his first election.
Mr Bentley added: ’We have a wonderful opportunity to make Douglas a capital we want it to be. To express our values and who we are as a nation.’
He will serve on the council until the next local elections in 2020.
The result of the vote was: Andrew Bentley 191 votes; Charlton Krentz 100; Claire Louise Newall 24; Amanda Walker 139.
The turnout was 18.5% with 442 of those eligible in Derby Ward casting their vote.
