Tracks originally destined for replacement horse tram lines have not been taken for use on the Manx Electric Railway.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer gave the assurance after David Ashford (Douglas North) asked whether the ’grooved track’ being used on the MER replacements at King Edward Road was originally planned for the horse trams as part of the promenade revamp.

’The grooved track being used to undertake the MER replacement on King Edward Road is not part of the track purchased for the promenade scheme,’ the minister said.

’To clarify, 300 rails were purchased for the promenade scheme and are currently in stock. At the same time, 400 rails were purchased for the MER, of which 25 are currently being installed in the King Edward Road area.’
