The Domestic Abuse Bill will return to the Keys today (Friday), as MHKs consider amendments from the Legislative Council.
The Bill will, among other things, introduce ’sexual risk orders’, which could be imposed on people who may not have been convicted of an offence and could lead to them being prohibited from certain activities. Details of anyone who was the subject of a sexual risk order would be on a ’need to know’ basis.
It will be guided through the Keys by Home Affairs Minister Graham Cregeen. It had been steered through LegCo by Tanya August-Hanson MLC.
In addition, the Bill will ban Manx media - both mainstream and social - from identifying defendants in sex offence cases up until a conviction, although the ban cannot be extended to media from off-island.
In total there are 15 amendments to the Bill which will be considered by MHKs who can either choose to accept them or fire it back to the MLCs for more consideration.
