Liberal Vannin chair Paul Weatherall has announced his intention to stand as MHK for Ayre and Michael in September’s general election.
Mr Weatherall said that in addition to making a difference in the way the island is governed, that above all he would seek to ’keep this part of the island [Ayre and Michael] a green and pleasant land’.
He said that his priorities will be supporting small business and the farming and fishing industry (particularly in the wake of Brexit), ensuring fairness in taxes and healthcare, working for more transparency in government, supporting legislation that gives people more freedom in their lives (such as decriminalising cannabis and improving freedom of information rights).
His statement announcing his candidacy said that he saw the future as being shaped by how we respond to climate change and recover from the economic consequences of the pandemic.
Mr Weatherall will soon be releasing a more detailed manifiesto, and people can contact him with questions at [email protected] or 479436.
