Manx Utilities chairman Dr Alex Allinson and officers will give evidence to a Tynwald committee investigating the suitability of the regional sewage treatment strategy on Thursday.

The environment and infrastructure policy review committee will sit in the Legislative Council Chamber from 10.30am.

As well as Dr Allinson, chief executive Phillip King, executive director Adrian Dobbins and head of projects and strategic planning Neil Caine will all give evidence.

The committee, which was set up last year, is chaired by MHKs Rob Callister, Clare Bettison and Chris Robertshaw.

It is looking at the regional sewage scheme ’with particular reference to the remaining sewage works’.

The hearing is open to the public, who can attend or listen via the audio webcast service on the Tynwald website.

At a previous hearing, concerns were raised that the investigation could lead to delays in building Peel’s plant which is scheduled to begin in 2019.

Peel town clerk Derek Sewell said: ’Peel is one of the best beaches and one of the most used beaches in the island. It also happens to be one of the most polluted as well.’

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer said it was ’self-evident’ that Peel should be in a regional sewage treatment strategy which was far more costs effective than the original all-island IRIS policy.
