The mayor of Douglas wants to become an MHK again.

Jon Joughin told yesterday’s council meeting: ’I will not be standing in the forthcoming Douglas local elections on July 22, but will continue to fulfil all my mayoral obligations to the council and the town.

’And I wish to take this opportunity to declare that I will be standing in the government election on September 23 as an independent candidate for Douglas East.’

Mr Joughin was elected as an MHK for the constituency in 2015 but lost his seat at the general election the following year.

He was a postman for 31 years and currently works as a taxi driver.

Are you planning to stand as an MHK in September’s general election?
