Anti-money laundering legislation is set to go for royal assent.
The Anti-Money Laundering and Other Financial Crime (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill has been fast-tracked through the House of Keys and Legislative Council.
It is part of the government’s response to the international Moneyval report on the Isle of Man’s anti-laundering measures.
The bill extends government powers draw up measures to fight money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
On Tuesday, the House of Keys nodded through amendments made by the Legislative Council, after it was discovered the legislation might allow for a foundation’s assets to be made public, rather than just its rules and procedures.
Clare Bettison (Douglas East) said the amendments ’make it absolutely clear that the information to be lodged with the companies registry excludes not only information that can identify an individual, but also information about assets’.
